AI-Driven Cognitive Research

Responding to the needs of industry, workers and retirees as we enter a new age.

Cognitive Agency

Most of us assume that a complex job keeps the mind sharp. Our research suggests the reality is more nuanced — it may not be how hard we think at work, but whether our work requires us to make real decisions with real consequences. We call this cognitive agency, and the UST Framework predicts it may be the key variable protecting against cognitive decline in later life. We are currently testing this hypothesis against existing longitudinal workforce data and welcome collaboration with domain experts. Our white paper is available here.

Cognitive Complexity and the AI-Driven Workplace

When AI handles the complex decisions, what's left for humans? Increasingly, the answer is monitoring, compliance, and exception handling — work that seems demanding but may offer little of the cognitive challenge that protects long-term brain health. Our research examines this tradeoff and develops practical measures for workers and organizations navigating it. Cyclic Psychology

Systems that develop within larger systems naturally adapt to the rhythms of their environment. Developed through the same line of research that produced the UST Framework, Cyclic Psychology examines how human behavior aligns with measurable natural cycles — and what that alignment reveals about patterns in mood, cognition, and social interaction. Early findings suggest practical applications in behavioral prediction and organizational dynamics.
